Last Blast

Reminder about entries that they need to be in ASAP.

https://www.clubsonline.com.au/swimregform/index.cfm?fuseaction=display_meet_summary&MeetID=9392&OrgID=2269

Above is the link for entries. This meet is filling up very quickly. We would like to make sure that the swimmers in our club that should be swimming this meet do not miss out. The meet has a warm up time of 2.30pm and a start time of 3.30pm (on March 20). The program as it stands now finishes at 8.24pm and we can not be there any longer than 9.00pm. Get them in quickly. If we run out of allocated time we will not be able to accept any more entries, whether you are from Bayside or not.

Another reminder that those not swimming will be required for timekeeping duties. We need to make sure that we have 3 timekeepers on all lanes for the meet otherwise we could have the qualification status of the meet withdrawn. The whole point of the meet is qualification for Age Nationals.

Thanks,

Gus

Nationals swimmers

Those intending to go to Adelaide this year for Age Nationals (including relay swimmers) will have a meeting next Tuesday (March 1) night at Mentone Grammar in the club room.

At the moment, I am not likely to be going. Unless the little beast and my wife conspire differently, I am likely to be changing nappies and washing baby gear. I do plan to make a few celebrity appearances but I cannot commit to stay the whole time AT THIS STAGE. That being as it is, Nic Baker will be running the show with Ben Drysdale and Zoe Pearce (our physio) in tow. This will be the first Age Nats I have missed since 2001 and the 3rd I have missed since 1989...

At present we have 12-14 people on our radar as going or likely to go. The likely ones are in the boys 14/u B relays who are desperately close to qualifying in both free and medley. The A team is already in. The reason that I have not made any definite names to relays is that I would like to give everyone the chance to get into the teams.

CURRENTLY means today. I am happy to update as and when it is required.

These are the teams as they stand as of now. If I have made errors, let me know...

Boys 14/u
Free
A 6 sec under QT
Capomolla
McDonald
Douglass
Dawes
B currently 0.83 sec away from QT
Balleggi
Shokin
Koh
Foss

Medley (BK, BR, FLY, FR)
A 7 sec under QT
Douglass
Foss
MacDonald
Capomolla
B currently 2.85 sec away from QT
Mann
Koh
Scirra
Dawes

Boys 16/under
Free 1.5 sec under QT
Rix
Simondson
MacDonald (not the fastest for the position but only one where it will not CURRENTLY have indiv program effected by relay)
Morris

Medley currently 3 sec outside
Simondson
Morris
Foss
Rix

No 18/under and no girls I am afraid. Girls will be rectified next year. We have a solid bunch of very capable girls coming through. 14/under girls 2012 will kick backside.

MOST IMPORTANT - If you want to challenge for any of these positions, I am happy to time you in a session (LC on Thu morn at Waves) or if you go faster at any of the upcoming meets. I will be making the final decision about teams the Monday after Last Blast (March 21) as all parties will have to get organised quickly from that date onward. National entries close March 30 at 5pm. All entries are online.

Cheers,

Gus

Last Blast

This meet is approaching and is very important on the clubs calendar for 2 reasons. We run meets very well and many other clubs rely on this as it is the last meet prior to Age Nationals. Secondly, it is a big fundraiser for the club.
All of the entries are online this year for the first time. This makes things significantly easier for those running the meet (us).
As is the case with all of the meets we run, we will need some assistance from members to make sure the meet runs well. More on this soon.

The main reason I am emailing now is that the entries are adding up quickly. We already have a meet that will go for 3 hours and we can not go any more than 5. As is the case with most meets, this will fill up faster as we get closer to the event. PLEASE GET ENTRIES IN NOW.

As this is a qualification meet, those racing should be in the following categories.
1. Those going for national times.
2. Those already going to nationals practising events.
3. Those racing for relay places.
4. Those that will not be going to nationals but swimming to assist the club and have QTs not too far from 13 years Nat QTs.

This is a fast meet. The majority of swimmers are within range of at least 13 years age nationals QTs. Therefore, you can help in one of 2 ways. Either swim, if you are in one of the above categories or help by timekeeping etc if you do not.

Thanks,

Gus

Clarification

Due to a bit of a misunderstanding on my behalf, I didn't quite explain myself in the earlier email.

Training will begin at 5.15am at Mentone Grammar. It will usually finish at 7am (where I got it wrong) except on days where the Mentone Grammar School team will be training (Tuesday and Friday) when it will finish at 6.45am. This has been decided to make the most of the time in the morning for both programs.

I have always been at programs that train from 5-7am and I was expecting that there would not be much of an issue with bringing the start forward 15mins. It allows us to get more work done and take our time when doing it, rather than rushing, which we have to do at times. I was wrong and was not expecting the reaction that I received.

My apologies for misleading you all earlier on the time schedule. If you have any further questions, please contact me by email or phone.

Thanks,

Gus

Training

Just to let you know of some important changes to training.

As from tomorrow morning, all Mentone Grammar morning sessions will commence at 5.15 and run until 6.45. The pool will be open with plenty of time. Please arrive 5-10 mins early and be ready to hit the water at 5.15.

Friday afternoons session at St Leonards this week is cancelled. St Leonards has a meet on that finishes too late for us to train. I only found out about this recently.

Lastly, there has been a steady loosening of swimmers ability to arrive at training on time. Every session so far this week has had at least one person dawdle in late. This needs to change now. As I have previously stated, the start time for sessions is the time you hit the water, not the time you walk through the door. It is the swimmers responsibility to be there on time with the correct kit. Not the parents.

Thanks,

Gus

Swim Meets this Summer

Once again, I would like to draw your attention to the meets that we are competing at. They are all in the calendar. This includes all Victorian and Australian Swimming Meets. It is imperative that you familiarise yourselves with the dates and importantly, the closing dates for entries.

This email is in response to many people calling Swimming Victoria to try and get swimmers in after the closing date. They are very strict about this and have called me to ask that I please let you know that, sorry, no more entries will be accepted.

On a brighter note, there are many other opportunities this summer to compete. The next one on the calendar is the Tigersharks meet on Feb 27. Entries are due Feb 9. It will be a nice change to not be in at MSAC. It is still a very nice pool. These entries will be via post. Please get them all in soon and let me know once you have entered.

Thanks,

Gus
