I know I have been back for a few days and it has taken me until now to get back onto the blog.
I thought that the first spiel of the season should be about how short course season works and what is involved.
SC (short course) is different to long course. Apart from the shorter pool. It tends to be the season that things get sorted out. Fitness is the big one. Technique comes a pretty close second. Other things include race plans, mental prep and very importantly, getting your personal management sorted out. All of this will set you in good stead for the upcoming LC season.
Many people enjoy the SC season and in many ways, it is a lot more enjoyable than LC due to a lack of perceived 'pressure.' My intention will be to try and bring the enjoyment into swimming more and then carry it through to the LC season. Trying to remove the pressure from the shoulders of an elite swimmer can be a very tough ask. Enjoying swimming can go a long way toward doing just that.
So, to summarise, SC is all about getting fit, organised and fun. Great prep for LC.
