We will be having a BBQ and Meeting for everyone that has qualified for State Champs this Thursday at Mentone at 6pm.
This will be an informal occasion so that we can all know and appreciate what each swimmer has as their challenge for the weekend.
Additionally, everyone that has qualified for state, your training sessions will be a little different this week. I would like everyone to swim only once a day and those sessions to be
Monday PM - At St Leonards
Tuesday AM - At Mentone
Wednesday PM - At St Leonards
Thursday AM - at Waves
Friday NONE - because you are swimming that night.
This meet is a different format this year. Keep your wits about you. Some events are straight finals, some are heats and finals. Some are fastest heat in finals. Know where and when you need to be. If you do not know, ASK. Better to know than muck it up.
Food - make sure you bring plenty of good food and drink. Make it really good, healthy food. If a coach sees anyone, whether they have finished swimming or not, eating gross, fatty food (esp. from the kiosk) words will be had. It isn't fair for those still swimming. Lollies aren't needed. You are VASTLY better off eating fruit. Don't go overboard on the sports drinks. They won't make you swim faster.
Every time I see a swimmer, they should be doing one of the following - warming up, racing, swimming down, drinking water, talking to their coach or smiling.
Make sure that ALL swimmers see their coaches BEFORE and AFTER every single swim. It is vital. It is likely that the coaches may not be with the Bayside group, due to the format and setup. Be aware of where you need to go.
Lastly, we need to get a LOT of seats. The more people we get in the door as early as possible, the better. We have the 5th biggest team. 58 swimmers. That means if each swimmer turns up with one parent, we will need 116 seats at the least. Help each other and reserve a whole lot of seats.
Swim fast, enjoy and don't be scared. It is only swimming.
Gus
