Lessons learned

This weekend, especially today (Sunday) was a bit of an eye opener for some swimmers at Decembers.

The biggest lesson most people will have come away with is how vastly important it is to stay warm if not hot prior to a race. It was slightly chilly and a few swimmers got really cold and performances were indicative of this. People diving into the water and physically not being able to get going until it was too late.

I have often pointed this out and will again now. We live in Melbourne. We train primarily indoors in warm environments. The pool that State Champs will be in is outside and sometimes the air is cold. It is a little foreign to us when this happens. PREPARE. Ugg boots, deck coats, hoodies, trackies, gloves, beanies, etc.

It was 15deg c out there today and in many cases, hoodies and thongs were no where near enough for the conditions.

I can only assume that deck coat sale this month will be high. I will certainly be taking mine next week.

Well done to those who swam this weekend too. There were some awesome times. See you at the pool,

Gus
