From Swimming Victoria

18 Mar 2010

Swimming Victoria (SV), lead by the Competitions Committee has completed a full review of the Victorian Age SC Championships and is pleased to announce a new format and dates for the 2010 event.

After conducting a comprehensive review process including extensive stakeholder feedback, the 2010 Victorian Age SC Championships will be held over two and a half days with a Heats/Finals format. SV can also announce the meet will run from Friday 27 – Sunday 29 August 2010.

Friday: Timed finals 5.30pm

Saturday: Heats 9am - Finals 5.30pm

Sunday: Heats 9am - Finals 5.30pm

The event will give Victorian athletes more opportunities to experience a Heats and Finals format and adds extra excitement to this Championship event. The duel pool format will still be used at the Friday night session and Saturday and Sunday Heats sessions to keep the competition to one weekend but the Finals sessions on Saturday and Sunday will be conducted in a single pool.

The changes are important along with a review of the Qualifying Times to improve the experience of athletes and spectators who attend the meet.

The latest QT’s and Event listing will be posted in the coming days

National Age Kiddies

To all of you guys going to Age, a few things to keep in mind this week.

Look after yourselves - this includes loads of sleep, loads of GOOD food, and not doing dumb stuff. When your friend says "hey, lets jump off the roof and see if the shrub breaks our fall" you can politely decline the kind offer. At least until you get back.

Training will have hard bits - not as much as usual but there has to be some high intensity stuff in there. We have drastically reduced the volume but the intensity has to stay high.

Know that there will be stressed people - be it coaches, swimmers or parents. I get stressed at nats and I know many others do too. It is all part of the process. Learn to recognise it and act accordingly.

Be nice - it is more pleasant that way.

Swim fast - now is the time and soon we will be in the place. As Nic would say, "Game face."

NCAAs chaos

Ok, so the NCAA (US colleges) mens championships are on at the moment - right now in fact.
It is one of the fastest meets in the world.
The last relay on the last night and hell broke loose...
The Auburn swimmer flinched at the start and went early. As he hit the water he stopped, as did the Texas guy to his side.
As we all know, you swim until you are told not to. The starter didn't stop the race because you don't do that.
Then an official has a brain snap and drops the rope as some swimmers have gone under. It stops a few of the swimmers but there are still 4 guys swimming.
Everyone in the centre goes off.
Here is the most amazing part. The teams of the swimmers that were still swimming launch themselves into the pool to stop their swimmers for a re-start that shouldn't be happening. Officials have no choice but to stop the race and re-start it 10 mins later.
Chaos.

Emails for age

Had an epic email failure over the weekend. Will get the techys on to it today and get all the info out asap.
Sorry about the delay.

Any problems getting there, give me a call.

Nat Age Rankings

We have some pretty awesome rankings in the program.

REMEMBER - it is just a ranking. We haven't even arrived in Sydney, far less swum the race yet. Don't let it go to your head and don't assume ANYTHING.

Race hard.

AUS Age Athlete Roster...

Calendars

As you might have noticed, I have been playing with Calendar applications on the blog here and with varying degrees of success.

There is now a calendar, which I am told updates automatically, down on the left hand side of the blog here. Don't ask how it got there, I am only 30% sure myself and I was the one who put it there... There is also one on the previous entry. Don't know if that one will update automatically.

Also, if you are a computer/calendar kind of person like me, you can subsrcibe to have all of the clubs comings and goings automatically uploaded to your computer. Tricky, I know. Lets hope it works.
Go into your calendar and find the subscribe option. Then copy and paste this link into it...

http://www.google.com/calendar/ical/gi7ftc2ns3h5bq5ui3mr8h4omo%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics

Let me know how you go. If it is an epic failure, I am sorry and I will try again.

Bayside Swimming Calendar

State Champs SC and LC 2010

A few changes are in the mix in relation to state champs for 2010.

Short Course
Will now be over 3 days
Heats and finals
Other changes yet to be announced

Long Course
Pre Christmas (yes people, that means you get Christmas and New Years to your selves)
6 day format reflective of National Age Program
11 and 12 year olds will be incorporated into the program and will also have heats and finals
Open State will stay where it is - mid January
National Age or School Swimming preparation will start Jan 1.Happy New Year.

Although a few of these changes have not yet been announced, the chance of them going through is definitely high.

200IM

James had a great first 100. Fastest 100 split he has done yet. The breast was a bit of a hurdle and the free was ok.
Turns out he was DQd for something I was unaware of. My fault, that one. Your hands must come apart before the dolphin kick in breast.

Tanya has the 50 tomorrow then we are home.

All Juniors

Quite happy with the swims this morning. Have a couple of swims left. But so far Arthur Kiselnikov, Isabelle Koh, Lucy George and Jess Henson-Thompson have qualified through to tomorrows final.

Wrong t shirt

Got in trouble tonight at the swimming for having a huge Engine sign on my shirt.

It's ok for speedo backed athletes to have bigger speedo logos on their gear but not for anyone else that might be supported by another brand.

Seems like some fairly strong double standards to me. I am almost certain that engine supports more clubs than speedo. And it's (still) Australian.

Good job Swimming Australia.

Tanya 100 free

Had a great start and was the best swim she has done for consistency. It was a small pb of 1:33.39. Next swim for Tanya is Sunday with her 50 breast.

200 back

Both the Nettlefold boys have just done their 200 back swims. Looked ok and the times were alright. No race prep for them yet though so looking forward to more at Age. Provided Adam eats some vegetables between now and then. Tanya is up soon in the 100 free.

Open Nationals

Just a quick note to let everyone know that Tanya Huebner, James and Adam Nettlefold will be swimming at Open Nationals next week in Sydney. Thes also double as selection for quite a few teams including the IPC World Champs and the Commonwealth Games.
Good Luck to all 3 and look out for them on ONE HD as they will be covering the whole event.

There will be up to date results through the live results browser at www.swimming.org.au and I will try to post as much info as I can here on the blog.

Last Blast Results

Results are now available on the Bayside Swimming website or on the office windows at Mentone Pool.

National Age Entries

Just a bit of a nudge to all of you out there that it is time to start putting your entries in for Age Nationals. As much as I would love to do it for you, I cant. If you go to the Age Nationals page at www.swimming.org.au it will have a link to entries for you. Dont worry about relays, I will handle those. Make sure of a few things first though.
1. You have your login and password. If not Swim Vic can help you (96865222).
2. Check the National Database ( https://console1.clubsonline.com.au/swimmaster/_resultsTable/ ) for times to make sure all of your entry times are accurate. If not, then you will need to call Aus Swimming on 02 6219 5600. If that doesnt work, let me know and we can try a few different things.
3. Credit/Debit card to pay for the entries.
4. You have the event numbers correct. It will probably notice if you enter the wrong event but even though, lets get it right first time.

When all of that is done, please forward the receipt on to me for the records. That way if you arent entered when we get to Sydney, I can have something to show them to prove that you were.
