For those living under a rock for the last few months, Tanya has made the World Championships team to go to Eindhoven this year.
A great achievement, no one will doubt.
I thought that I might let you in on a little of the preparation that will go into her swimming this year.
From AUS and VIC swimming
Funding will come from Vic swimming through the VIS.
Autralian swimming has had a big influence in the planning of the season. Tanya had a camp in Sydney for a week in April. She will be competing at German Nationals in Berlin soon. Then there is the trip to Eindhoven, 3 weeks long with full support staff. A huge part of Swimming Australia's budget goes to tours and training camps.
From Bayside
Individualised program due to Tanyas meets being offset from everyone elses. Not such an issue now but it will gradually get more distinct the closer we get to comps.
Support in as many different ways as we need to show it. We are the face to face of Tanyas training. 99% of the message will be coming from us. We need to have the answers.
All of her sessions are already written between now and World Champs. Took a while. That said, it might all get thrown out the window if it isnt working. Part of the process.
From Tanyas Employer
Understanding. Simple as that. And she also needs time. Time to do her work in. Time off from work. In these situations the relationship between employers and employees can become strained.
It should also be mentioned that Tanya is an adult. A lot of times, coaches can turn around and talk to adult swimmers that same way they would a younger athlete. There is a different approach required and it can be tricky at times. This is a great experience. First time for her and first time for me. Organisation is our best friend. Stay tuned. more to come.
